Thanks to Miss L we now have a great challenge on our hands. After drinking the day through at Ellerslie for the Great Northern Day a few weeks back, we were encouraged to attend Gore Racing Club’s Christmas Race Day on December 19th. This sounded like an excellent adventure for the two of us and all was going well until Mr. Ellis Winsloe (inviter) suggested we (invitees) up the stakes and bring a jockey. We chose this legend…….

Those of you who know us understand that we are highly motivated by people who tell us “it cant be done” so we have already put some plans into place to try and achieve this challenge.
Our preparation time will be hampered by the 8 days we are spending in Melbourne for Spring Carnival Week, but we are hoping (like last year- see older posts in “Whats Happening” section for 2009 Melb Cup run down…) we can, once again, hunt Mr Harris down, and this time ply him with beer before signing him up for the Southland Tour of the Year.
If you are interested in supporting us (or even just attending a wicked day out in Southland!) please send us a message…
If you are able to lend a hand in fast / sweet talking a racing legend, send us a message…
If you have Noel’s digits, send us a message…
We will keep you updated!
Check out what we / you are getting yourself in for:

Time Line to date:
5 Sept 2009: Kidunot wins the Great Northern Hurdles at Ellerslie and during celebrations fine friendships are formed…
4 Sept 2010: A year on exactly, Canterbury awakes to earthquakes as Aucklanders prepare for a day at the races. The challenge is thrown down by the Southern men for the girls from Auckland to support Gore Racing by attending with a jockey of their choosing…
25 Sept 2010: Saw John Sargent at Eden Cloakroon after the races today - sent him across a beer in the hope he would be interested in assisting us by pointing us in the right direction. He left before we could get any convo started. Its not looking good.
1 October 2010: Time is slipping by and no action has been taken! We need to up our game to SOS(outhland)Racing!
7 October 2010: Advertising our plight, we get a cellphone number for Mr Harris! - well we think its his number…..
8 October 2010: The ice breaking txt is sent…. and the little girls wait….
9 October 2010: Up at the Hyatt for the 150 Melbourne Cup Business and Racing Black Tie Dinner. Managed to get hold of the cup….

…but still no Noel Harris…
16 November 2010: Things arent going so well with our plan. Double bookings and lack of jockey hindering the great adventure.
27 November 2010: Eagle Technology Race Day at Ellerslie today. Checked the TAB website yesterday to see if target jockey would be there. No Noel Harris on the schedule.
You can only imagine our excitment as he rode out of the tunnel past us. He wasnt so excited with us sending our contact into the jockeys room after the race to fetch him. Yes - the number was correct and he had recieved our txt so after some smart manipulation we managed to get him to agree to join us for the expedition! - only it wont be for December 19!
Do not fret Gore - we WILL be there just slightly delayed…..
So watch this space…..

The anticipated thirty second year has arrived for Miss. .xls - and what a fabulous year it its going to be!
Kind carer to all, and entertainer to many, this little lady will be a major player in Leos Day this Friday.
Happy Birthday Vanessa Kenyon! thank you for always looking after us X

Hosted by the racing club with the best view in NZ, Kamo Club was the place to be the night before the Ruakaka Races. Butch Castles was the MC for the evening, keeping us all well entertained. Guest speaker was the new big wig at Ellerslie, Russell Warwick (Westbury Stud)
We were loving sitting at the Mayors table and the fact that a round of drinks cost less than a Mega Triple Dip, therefore creating an unlimited supply of cash for the Calcutta.
The Calcutta was our focus for the night, the Attwood Whanau throwing out large on a long shot in the hope of early retirement.
Savvy Dancer from Moroney Stables in Matamata is probably (as we speak) on his way to Bombay, our big investment finishing 11th of of 13 horses (and one of those was scratched)
Good times! Cant wait for the Fashion Fiesta in September- watch out Ruakaka!

A grand day for the ladies, thanks to sponsorship from DARC Hair in Westmere (John and Sabine) Mobile Beauty (Lusia) SP Makeup Artistry (Sarah) Storm Clothing Ponsonby and Loumina Jewels, as well as the lovelies from Pole Revolution…..soon to be repeated.
Just for a change Miss L and I decided some sporting action was the flavor during Queens Birthday Weekend. Many calls were made to the competition hot line with no success, so we pulled out the big guns and with the delivery of a chocolate cake, got our names on the list.

The Warriors were playing the Dragons at Mt Smart and we were lucky enough to talk our way into a corporate box hosted by the Morning Pirates from Radio Hauraki. Isn’t it amazing what the power of woman’s manipulation can provide! Final score of an exciting game: Warriors 20 Dragons 22 (soooo close!)
A great time was had by all (including the Cosh Bar shareholders as we organised after match drinks in their bar)
For homework a class was asked to draw their parents at work.
Here is Jessicas drawing:

Here’s the letter the teacher received the next day:
Dear Mrs. Jackson,
I wish to clarify that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an ex oti c dancer.
I work at Bunnings (hardware store) and I told my daughter how hectic it was last week after the floods hit.
I told her we sold out every single shovel we had and then I found one more in stock and
several people were fighting over who would get it.
Her picture doesn’t show me dancing around a pole.
It’s supposed to depict me selling the last shovel we had in the store.
From now on I will remember to check her homework before she hands it in.
Sincerely,
Erica Cameron

… works positively when shots are followed by Pinot Noir, takes a negative spin if punctuated with Pinot Gris, so if mixing with white wine, ensure you have at least one paid sick day up your sleeve.

Good times had by all. Our team took a few punches in the initial part of the evening (heavy rain, random additions to the table, no shows due to medical reasons) but all in all, very enjoyable for us, the Cosh bar regulars.
Aaron “Cool Hand” Caville worked his magic, but glory alluded him in the semis. Here he is doing what he does well….

here he is doing what he does better….

…working it with the ladies… you cant be a gold medalist in everything!
Good work to Danny Codling and his team for a top night and congrats to Zane Coppins who took home the $2000 prize money.
